TVH resident Gwyneth, who lives in south west London missed the opportunity to do something for Children in Need last year, so this year she was determined to raise some money for the charity. The only problem was she wasn't sure how to go about it.
Gwyneth explains, "I didn't have much experience of charity fundrasing and wasn't sure what to do, but I really felt I had to do something.
I called Ellie Morgan, Resident Involvement Officer at Thames Valley Housing, and together we researched various ways to raise money. We had just had the community room on my estate painted, so in the end we decided that we should hold a jumble sale as this would raise money and it would also give residents a chance to get to know each other.
We had loads of stuff donated, including plants, and we had tea, coffee and biscuits so residents could come, look at what was for sale, and chat with each other.
The jumble sale, which was just for half a day, raised nearly £150, which was amazing, and everyone had fun! I also organised a charity 'Horrid Hair Day' at my children's school and together with the jumble sale raised nearly £450 in total. I was delighted. This is something I'll definitely be doing it again next year!
