Young people in Chiswick are taking control of their financial security and their future, thanks to a special advice day about housing, benefits and training opportunities.

The event organised by Thames Valley Housing (TVH) took place at the Claremont Grove estate in Chiswick last Wednesday 21st April.  TVH manage the 3 blocks of shared flats.

As well as TVH, on hand to provide support and guidance were Hounslow Housing Benefit advisors and Independent Financial Advisors offering financial advice.

The purpose of this day was to ensure that these young residents are aware TVH are available to support them and that they receive the benefits they are entitled to.  They were also offered access to training and other forms of financial advice to enhance their opportunities now and in the future.

27 year old Ngimbi, who has lived at Claremont Grove for a year, said, ‘’This has been really helpful for me as I wasn’t too sure what benefits I was and wasn’t entitled to.    It’s been good to meet the staff from TVH again and to know we can contact them for support if we need too.’’

Simon Senior, Revenues Manager at TVH, said, ‘Very often these young people lack knowledge about the benefits system and don’t even have a bank. Helping them apply for benefits and understand their finances ensures they are secure in their homes and they can get on with their lives.’

We are planning a series of similar events over the coming year to help more residents within our local communities.’
