Resident Auditors
The Thames Valley Housing Resident Auditors Group (TVHRA) is part of Thames Valley Housing’s (TVH) Resident-led self-regulation (RLSR). The aim of RLSR is to audit, to assess, to report and to ensure delivery of the best possible service to residents.
Since its inception in April 2009, the Group has produced a range of reports and their recommendations have been fully accepted by the TVH Board. From these, service improvements have been made to core service areas including ASB procedures, reactive repairs, the service charge, the complaints procedures and customer care.
The TVHRA is a semi-autonomous body with its own constitution and budget. At the outset, members of the The Audit Group received training from TVH to ensure that it had the skills to audit effectively. The Audit Group have full, independent access to all aspects of TVH’s polices, procedures and services, as well as the choice of Audit and method of investigation. It has 16 TVH resident members from a range of ages, genders and ethnic backgrounds. It is chaired by TVH resident, Steve McAllister.
The degree of autonomy and degree to which they affect regulation is greater than the majority of similar resident scrutiny groups. The TVHRA has now visited or played host to other Housing Association scrutiny groups as an example of good practice. Recently, TVH won a tender to provide support and training to the Slough Senate, a resident scrutiny group being developed by Slough Borough Council
