City & Guilds NVQ Certificates and Diploma in Business and Administration

Improved administration in the workplace leads to significant savings, increased productivity and more satisfied customers. This City and Guilds accredited qualification is for individuals working in administration roles who would like to develop their work-related skills and knowledge.

Level 1

The City & Guilds NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration Level 1 covers essential skills and knowledge related to working in a business environment, all of which are transferable to any type of organisation or industry. The NVQ Certificate builds on skills and provides the candidate with opportunities to develop wider skills within a business administration environment.

Suitable for:

Candidates who work or want to work in an administrative support role. Those who are new to working in business administration.

 

Duration: 12 months

 

Units:

 

To achieve the Level 1 Certificate in Business and Administration, candidates must achieve the mandatory units and a minimum of 8 credits from the range of optional units available.

 

Mandatory units:

  • Work in a business environment
  • Communicate in a business environment

     

    Level 2

    The City & Guilds NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration Level 2 provides candidates with a solid understanding of how to work and communicate in any business environment. This qualification gives candidates the opportunity to develop a broad skill set that will facilitate progression in the workplace and/or further learning and training. The qualification will allow candidates to develop knowledge and skills in challenging activities such as event co-ordination and project support, and provides the opportunity to pursue more specialist routes, such as HR administration. With the inclusion of optional IT units, including using databases and word processing software, the candidate can tailor their NVQ to suit their individual role and the needs of their employer.

    Suitable for:  

    Candidates who wish to work or are already employed in, an administrative role. Those who are new to working in the business administration sector and perform diverse and challenging tasks.

     

    Duration: 12 months 

     

    Units:

    To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Business and Administration, candidates must achieve the mandatory units and a minimum of 12 credits from the range of optional units available.

    Mandatory units: 

    • Manage own performance in a business environment
    • Improve own performance in a business environment
    • Work in a business environment
    • Communicate in a business environment

         

        Level 3

      The NVQ Diploma in Business and Administration Level 3 provides candidates with the opportunity to develop their understanding and skills in a broad range of administrative activities, such as information management, event co-ordination and implementing procedures and systems. With flexible structures and a diverse set of optional units, this NVQ enables candidates to gain essential business skills such as decision-making and resource and project management, meeting the needs of employers from all types of organisations and industries.

      Suitable for:

      Candidates already employed in or wishing to work in an administrative role with a high degree of autonomy.

       

      Duration: 12 months

      Units:

      To achieve the Diploma in Business and Administration Level 3, candidates must achieve the mandatory units and a minimum of 27 credits from the range of optional units available. 

       

      Mandatory units:

      • Manage own performance in a business environment
      • Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment
      • Work in a business environment
      • Communicate in a business environment

         

        Qualification details

         

        Awarding body: City & Guilds

        To gain the qualification candidates must demonstrate that they are competent at their job. If the candidate does not reach a suitable level of competence to achieve the qualification, then further training will be identified to ensure that they can demonstrate competency.

        Mode of study:

        Work based evidence collection. A candidate will be allocated an assessor who will judge their competence against the National Occupational Standards. Candidates must be directly observed by their assessor.  Evidence collection methods can also include witness statements, case studies, professional discussions and questioning.

        Candidates are offered the choice to build a paper-based or electronic portfolio of evidence for the qualification.
