Mayor Celebrates Start on Site of Affordable Homes - 15/11/01
Thames Valley Housing is delighted to announce that work has commenced on 20 flats for low cost home ownership. The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor John Tryon came to see work in progress on the site.

The 20, 1 bedroom flats will be sold to local people who cannot afford to buy outright as house prices in Ascot are so high. They will buy a share in the new homes on a part-buy, part-rent basis, and will later have the opportunity to own the home outright.

The homes are being built by Kingsoak Thames Valley as part of a larger development. They are being provided as part of a planning agreement with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, which requires some of the homes to be affordable to people on lower incomes.

The flats have been built on the site of the old Royal Ascot Hotel. The Hotel, which was built in 1860, could accommodate 150 horses in boxes and 150 stable lads in overhead sleeping compartments, as well as visitors to Ascot from all over the world.
