49 New Affordable Homes for Aldershot Town Centre - 01/03/02
Thames Valley Housing is delighted to announce the opening of Enterprise House, a development of 49 homes for shared ownership and rent in Aldershot town centre. The flats will be opened by The Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Charles Choudhary, on Friday 8th March at 11 am.
The flats are located on the site of former office buildings on the High Street, and are the third such development that Thames Valley Housing has completed in Aldershot. The building, which includes parking for every flat and a communal roof garden, addresses key aims in the Rushmoor Borough Council Aldershot Regeneration Strategy, including use of brownfield sites for housing and bringing more residential homes into the town centre. 41 of the homes are for shared ownership with the remaining 8 for rent to local people. The homes were publicised to people on the Borough housing register and to key local workers including teachers, police officers and bus drivers.
Keith Holloway, Chief Executive of Thames Valley Housing, said, "Thames Valley Housing is continuing to work with Rushmoor Borough Council to bring high quality, affordable homes to Aldershot town centre. This development provides the first step on the housing ladder for many people unable to afford the high property prices in Aldershot."
Councillor David Welch, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Community, said, "The Council invested capital subsidy of £700,000 with a further £175,000 provided by the Housing Corporation, to enable Thames Valley Housing to develop this scheme and we are delighted with the results. Most importantly people who cannot afford to buy a home of their own have benefited. Part of the High Street has also been improved and local businesses will benefit from having 49 new households living in the town centre."
