Councillor Opens Shared Ownership Development for High Wycombe Locals - 21/08/02
Councillor Roger Wilson, Cabinet Member for Housing at Wycombe District Council opened a new 42 house shared ownership development, built by Thames Valley Housing in partnership with Bryant Homes Southern and Wycombe District Council, at the Glory Mill site, Wooburn Green on Thursday 15th August.
The 42 shared ownership properties, which are part of a larger 120 property development by Bryant Homes Southern, consist of seven 2 bedroom houses, thirty-one 3 bedroom houses and four 4 bedroom houses, and have all gone to people local to the area.
Shared ownership housing is one way that buyers can get a first foot on the property ladder, particularly relevant giving the cost of housing in South Bucks. The buyer purchases a percentage of the property, usually 50% or 60%, and pays rent on the remaining share. The buyer can purchase a further percentage of the property at any time, until they own the property outright.
The event began with speeches from Keith Holloway, Chief Executive, Thames Valley Housing and Councillor Wilson. This was followed by a visit to one of the properties and a tour of the development site, which was formerly a paper mill. The tour included a specially built fish pass, on the River Wye which runs through the development. The pass allows the trout that live in the river to progress upstream.
