Flagship development for Slough - 26/03/03
A development by George Wimpey West London and Thames Valley Housing has been praised by Slough Councillors as pointing the way to how higher density housing can provide an acceptable environment in which to live. It is hoped that the development at Windmill Road will provide a model for future such housing developments in Slough.

Windmill Road is a mixed-tenure scheme on a brownfield site which will provide rented, shared ownership and live/work units as part of a larger private development. Planning permission was granted for the scheme and it was considered that a reasonable balance had been struck between high density and quality of design. The scheme is very much in line with Central Government Guidance on high density schemes. They concluded that not only would the scheme not have an adverse impact on the surrounding area, it will in fact be a flagship development for Slough.

The scheme design includes environmental and people friendly features such as water saving devices, recycling facilities, and home zone design for road space, which is intended to reduce the dominance of the car and make streets into a safe and community-focussed area for residents.
