Successful Drugs Eviction - 25/02/04
Thames Valley Housing yesterday successfully evicted a tenant who had turned his flat into drugs den. The flat had been used to smoke crack and heroin, and local prostitutes had also been regular visitors.

Working in partnership with Thames Valley Police, who attended the eviction, the housing association were able to gain possession of the flat in Wantage Road, Reading, on the grounds of anti-social behaviour. The police, represented at the eviction by PC Mark Brashaw, have already raided the flat twice for drugs, on one occasion seizing Class A drugs from two women who were entering the flat.

Staff also found the flat, built new only two years ago, had been kept in a very bad state, with not only what appeared to be drugs paraphernalia, but also rubbish and clothing lying around.

Neighbours expressed relief that the tenant had been evicted. The flat will now be cleaned up and let to a local resident in need of affordable housing on the Reading Borough Council register.
