New homeowners get 'The Point' - 15/04/04
The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Woking, Councillor Richard Sanderson, opened a new development of affordable housing at 'The Point', 99 Chertsey Road, Woking.
Part of a larger development of 38 flats built by Bellway Homes, the ten one-bedroom shared ownership flats have been built by a partnership of Thames Valley Housing, Woking Borough Council and Bellway Homes.
Shared ownership is a scheme designed to help people get a foot on the property ladder in areas where housing is very expensive. Buyers purchase a share of the property that they can afford, and pay rent on the remainder. If they choose, they can buy more shares and eventually own it outright.
This is the first time that Bellway Homes has partnered Thames Valley Housing and Woking Borough Council in providing affordable homes.
Adrian Fenwick, Sales Director of Bellway Homes, said, ''Bellway are delighted to be involved in partnership schemes offering affordable housing opportunities to key workers and other people on low incomes''.
Keith Holloway, Chief Executive at Thames Valley Housing said ''This development is one more example of how effective working together can be. At Thames Valley Housing we are committed to partnership and providing homes for the whole community. We help people on their first step to home ownership, and provide affordable, shared homes where they are needed by a council.''
