Celia Hensman, The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Charing Cross, Hammersmith and Queen’s Charlotte’s Charitable Fund and Michael Barrott, Chair of Thames Valley Housing have jointly unveiled a plaque to mark the start of construction of new homes for health care workers on the Burlington Danes site at Hammersmith Hospital.

The 295 unit development is made up of 204 studio flats, 42 one-bed flats, 10 on-call studio flats, 37 visitors’ studio flats and 2 flats which have been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchairs. The development is being built by a partnership of The Trustees of the Charitable Funds of Charing Cross, Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals, Thames Valley Housing Association and Willmott Dixon Housing.

The land, which was bought from the Burlington Danes School which is adjacent to the hospital, will also contain a £60 million research complex on the Imperial College campus at Hammersmith Hospital.

This is the fifth NHS Trust that Thames Valley Housing has worked with. TVH already manages accommodation at Broadmoor Special Hospital, The Bournewood NHS Trust, The Queen Victoria NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust.

Keith Holloway, Chief Executive of Thames Valley Housing, said, "Providing high quality, affordable homes for our key workers is essential to secure London's future sustainability. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and Imperial College on this leading edge project.’’
