Runnymede Mayor opens Chertsey development - 29/10/04
The Mayor of Runnymede, Councillor Mrs Carole Jones, opened a new development of affordable homes at Barker Close, off Barker Road, in Chertsey on Friday 29th October.
The 15 homes for rent, made up of 12 one-bedroom flats, 2 two-bedroom maisonette flats and 1 two-bedroom house, have been built by a partnership of Thames Valley Housing, Runnymede Borough Council and Kier Partnership Homes Ltd.
The homes have been built on a former garage site. In addition to the need for affordable housing, Runnymede Borough Council were keen to see the land used to put a stop to heavy fly-tipping and vandalism which had persistently troubled the site.
Peter Bowden, Regional Development Manager, at Thames Valley Housing said, "The success of this development illustrates just how effective working together can be. At Thames Valley Housing we are committed to partnership and providing homes for the whole community. In this case, we have been able to provide homes and remove a problem area as well."
