New Community at Elvetham Heath - 02/08/05
Councillor Susan Band, Cabinet Member for Housing at Hart District Council, attended a celebration to mark the completion of the affordable homes Thames Valley Housing has built at Elvetham Heath. The event, which took place on Friday 29 July at 11am, was also an opportunity for Thames Valley Housing to thank the partner organisations they have worked with at the development.

After with speeches from Keith Holloway, Chief Executive, Thames Valley Housing and Councillor Band, guests were given the opportunity to go on a site visit. They then attended a buffet lunch on their return to the community centre.

Elvetham Heath is a groundbreaking phased development, started in 1999, of a new community made up of some 1868 homes, being created by Elvetham Heath Developments, part of Persimmon Homes Plc. 289 of the 1860 homes are being developed by three housing associations-: Thames Valley Housing, Sentinel Housing Group and Hyde Housing Association, in partnership with site developers Persimmon Homes, Kier Partnership Homes and the local authority Hart District Council.

Thames Valley Housing has developed the largest portion of the affordable housing with 111 shared ownership properties and 24 rented properties built in five phases, starting in 2000. Each of the differing phases has their own specific character. This is in keeping with the overall design of Elvetham Heath which is made up of a number of developments, each with its own architectural style, ranging from winding village streets to wide formal avenues of houses.

Keith Holloway, Chief Executive at Thames Valley Housing said, ‘’It is not often that there is an opportunity to be part of the birth of a new community. Elvetham Heath is a living example that communities can be established successfully in a way that is sustainable to the environment and contributes to meeting the needs of the community.’’

The five phases have been funded by a combination of Local Authority Social Housing Grant funding totalling £518,060 and funding from the Housing Corporation totalling £5, 492, 325. Fiona Cruickshank, Director for the Housing Corporation South East. said: ’’ I am delighted that Housing Corporation investment has provided 289 much needed homes at Elvetham Heath, Fleet, and that these new homes will help to build a new community. All the homes have been built to a high quality with a variety of design styles incorporating Modern Methods of Construction.”
