New Homes from Old - 17/10/05
Guests from Thames Valley Housing, Lacey Simmons and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council were joined by Councillor Allen Kay, Ward Councillor for Horley Central, to celebrate the commencement of work on 9 shared ownership flats at the re-development of the Edwardian mansion, Cooper Lodge on Massetts Road in Horley on Friday 7 October.
The re-development of the well-known local building, which has also been a school for the blind, will create 27 luxury apartments including the 9 for shared ownership. These will comprise 6 ,1 bedroom flats and 3, 2 bedroom flats and are being built by a partnership of Thames Valley Housing, Lacey Simmons and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, with the aid of a £250,000 Housing Corporation Grant.
Shared Ownership is a scheme where the buyer purchases a percentage of the property, usually 50% or 60%, and pays rent on the remaining share. The buyer can purchase a further percentage of the property at any time, until they own the property outright.
Fiona Cruickshank, Director for the Housing Corporation, South East, said, ‘’I am pleased that the Housing Corporation has provided funding for nine much needed homes for Shared Ownership in Horley."
Thames Valley Housing Chief Executive, Keith Holloway said ‘’Thames Valley Housing are delighted to be part of a scheme that will bring back into effective use such a grand building, particularly one that is so well known locally and at the same time helps people to achieve their first step onto the property ladder’’.
The apartments are due for completion mid way through next year.
