Slough Housing Commissioner opens new affordable homes - 03/10/07
Councillor Tony Haines, Slough Borough Council Commissioner for Housing, celebrated the opening of Wordsworth Road and Lynch Hill Lane; two new developments of affordable housing, on Monday 01 October. The developments are managed by Thames Valley Housing and were built by a partnership of Thames Valley Housing, Slough Borough Council and Rok Construction.
Councillor Haines met Wordsworth Road resident, Andy Jacobs, a single parent who had been living in temporary council accommodation with his teenage son, Tom, for 3 years when he was given the opportunity to move into one of the new homes.
Councillor Sean Wright, the local ward councillor for Britwell also visited the two sites which are only minutes from each other. Formerly children’s care homes, they had been derelict for some time. The partnership has built 5 flats for affordable rent at Wordsworth Road and 3 houses for affordable rent at Lynch Hill Lane.
Slough Borough Council wanted to ensure the new homes would be built to a high design specification, so they approached Thames Valley Housing who has a proven track record in delivering high quality developments. The properties are clad with cedar and the rooms are extremely spacious. The developments and were part-funded by a Local Authority Social Housing Grant of £615,928.
Keith Holloway, Chief Executive Officer at Thames Valley Housing said, ‘’I am delighted to see such well-designed homes developed specifically to provide affordable rent. To make 3 houses available for local people, as well as the flats, is a real bonus. I hope we can do more with the council’’.
