What is Resident Involvement?

Resident involvement is about you taking part in the way services are delivered and giving you a choice in the services you receive.  We want you to be able to take part in a way that suits you; from simply telling us what you think about our services to getting more involved in setting the standards and policies which affect the services you receive.

So How Can I Take Part?

Traditionally, resident involvement has meant going to meetings, but we know people are busy with commitments to kids, jobs, family and friends.  With this in mind we've developed a wide range of options so that you can take part in a way that suits you.

Surveys

We regularly carry out postal, telephone and door-to-door surveys of randomly selected residents and use the results as the starting point for further consultation.

Residents' Consultative Committee (RCC)

There is  one central consultative group elected by and representative of all residents. It meets every month and every second month they hold a meeting called the Residents General Meeting which is open to all residents.

Resident Board Members

Residents have the opportunity to apply to be a member of the TVH Board of Governors. Board members are nominated by an RCG then go through an interview process involving residents, staff and other board members.

Service Quality Improvement Groups (SQIGs)

These are groups of residents and staff working together in partnership to improve services. Meetings are held four times a year.

Estate-based Residents' Groups

If you would like to get involved in issues related specifically to where you live, estate-based groups can be set up. They range from formal groups with regular meetings, to groups set up for a specific purpose, e.g. consultation on landscaping or kitchen replacement.

If you would like to start up a formal resident's group contact Darren Morris for more information.  Please include your name, address and day time contact number.

Resident Estate Inspectors

We give incentives (in the form of gift vouchers) to residents who would like to regularly inspect the quality of cleaning and gardening services to their estate and report this back to us.

Other ways

Consultation groups, such as focus groups, may also be set up to get your views on a specific issue such as a policy review. We will also consult with you (e.g. by home visit) wherever possible on improvements to your home or estate.

If you would like to be involved but can't see an option that appeals to you, please email Tim Brooks, Resident Involvement Manager, for more information.

Helping you get involved

Thames Valley Housing will provide training, funding, and other assistance to residents who would like to get involved.

Some groups of our residents - young people, black and minority ethnic residents, residents with disabilities - have, for lots of different reasons, been less likely to get involved. We think all your views are really important so we will make specific plans, using specialist consultants to help us if we need to, to engage with them.
