Housing Specific Course - Certificate in Housing

Certificates in Housing

The Certificates in Housing are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Housing, and offer many benefits to the employee and to the organisation they work for.

These include:

  • staff members will have the skills necessary to perform more effectively in a highly competetive environment.
  • improved communications and increased customer service skills
  • provides candidate with the opportunity to acquire professional membership with the Chartered Institute of Housing
  • provides recognition and reward for new and experienced employees.
Certificate in Housing Level 2

An introductory qualification which is suitable for a wide range of people at different levels in the housing sector. It is the equivalent of a GCSE or NVQ Level 2, providing the relevant skills knowledge and understanding to work effectively within the housing sector. It is particularly suitable for Housing Assistants and tenants and for employees new to the Housing Sector.

Level 2 comprises of 4 units:

  • Housing Provision and Housing Organisations
  • Customer Care and Communication Skills for Housing
  • Careers and Opportunities in Housing
  • Developing Skills for Working in Housing

The qualification is delivered over a 6 month period. Students will attend the Training Centre one day each month to participate in workshops, as well as completing assignments and tasks in their own time.

Certificate in Housing Level 3

Level 3 is suitable for Housing and Operational Officers. Succesful completion of this certificate entitles the individuals to become a Practitioner Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and to use the letters Cert CIH after their name.

Level 3 consists of of 6 core units:

  • Housing Policy;
  • Working partnership;
  • Skills development in a housing context;
  • Customer care for housing;
  • Reflective practice;

Students also chose to study a pathway unit:

  • Housing Management and Maintenance
  • Supported Housing

Depending on the needs of the organisation, a programme involving a number of delegates can be linked to specific areas of organisational development such as Best Value Reveiws, Partnering, Resident Involvement etc.

The qualification is delivered over a 12 month period and students will attend the training centre offices one day each month, as well as completing tasks in their own time. At the end of the course students will be able to achieve an overall grade for their qualification of pass, merit or distinction.
