Thames Valley Housing (TVH) has funded a local charity which provides support to extremely ill children in Bracknell Forest, through its Community Chest.
Sebastian’s Action Trust offers support to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families across the country. They’ve created the UK’s only holiday retreat facility called The Bluebells.
TVH has funded a Community Befriender who will offer care to families suffering from the stresses of hospital life. The charity was set up by Jane Gates in memory of her son Sebastian, who passed away 11 years ago.
Caroline Holton, Chief Development Officer for Sebastian’s Action Trust said, “We’re very proud to have made Sebastian’s wish to have a family holiday home become a reality. Our respite breaks at the Bluebells, organised activities and day visits are an important part of keeping the family unit together through difficult times; offering time and space to rebuild as happier, stronger families in spite of challenges they face. They can also share the leisure facilities on site and children can attend various workshops run by our outreach workers, such as music and drama as a form of wellbeing therapy”.
Tessa Bird, Community Investment Officer at TVH, who has been working closely with the charity, said “I’m honoured to be working with The Sebastian’s Action Trust. The help they provide is inspiring. Jane, Caroline and the team put their heart and soul into making poorly childrens’ lives better. It’s great that we can be a part of it and make a difference to people’s lives.”
