Thames Valley Housing (TVH) has taken over ownership and management of 348 homes in Aylesbury from Sovereign Housing Association.
286 of the homes are for rent; the majority of the remainder are shared ownership homes. Sovereign have sold them to TVH in order to concentrate their resources in areas where they have more homes.
John Baldwin, Housing Director at TVH said, ‘We already have nearly 500 homes in the area, including the management of the staff accommodation at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, so the structures are in place to ensure a smooth transition and on going housing services for our new residents”.
Heather Bowman, Sovereign’s Director of Housing and Communities, said: “As a business, we are looking to focus our operations on those areas where we have a concentration of homes, so that we can deliver a more efficient service and better value for money for our residents. We have been managing our homes in Buckinghamshire from our office in Abingdon, and we feel that these residents will receive a more responsive and cost-efficient service if they were served by TVH, which is a preferred partner of the local authority.”
Sovereign and TVH communicated with the affected residents about the plans and held a formal six-week consultation period when they could feed back their questions and concerns. “We were pleased that residents overwhelmingly understood and supported the decision to transfer their homes,” Heather Bowman said.
As part of the stock transfer, Thames Valley Housing are also taking over a further 10 Sovereign homes spread over Guildford, Burnham and Cranleigh.
