We’re one of five housing associations taking part in a trial scheme, in partnership with the Government, to offer tenants in certain areas the opportunity to buy their home under a voluntary sales scheme similar to the existing Right to Buy.
Tenants taking part in the pilot could get a discount of up to 70% on the market value of their home (or £77,900, whichever is lower) and be one of the first housing association tenants in the country to have this opportunity under the Government’s new plans.
The pilot is limited to a certain number of properties. After the pilot, the Voluntary Right to Buy scheme may be opened up to other tenants around summertime in 2016.
Am I eligible to take part in the pilot?
We’re is running the pilot scheme in five local authority areas:
•Woking, Guildford, Rushmoor, Runnymede or Hart
If you currently live in a TVH property in one of these areas and have been a tenant for 10 years or more with a housing association or a public sector landlord (such as a council), you may be eligible for the pilot. There are some other criteria you need to meet too.
Certain types of property will be exempt as it’s not appropriate to sell them, and some tenants will be excluded in specific cases.
I’m interested, what should I do next?
If this sounds right for you, you first need to register on the government’s Right to Buy website.
Once you are registered, we will send you an application pack. Only tenants who have registered online will receive the pack.
Is there a cost to apply?
After we receive your form, we will check if you and your property qualify. If so, we will then ask you to pay an application fee of £250.
We will refund the application fee to you if the sale goes through or if it turns out later in the process that we are unable to sell your property to you. We won’t be able to refund the fee if you pull out or you breach any of the eligibility rules during the process.
Important points to remember
•The pilot is limited to a certain number of property sales, and we will process applications on a first-come, first-served basis, which starts with us receiving a fully completed application form, supporting evidence and the application fee.
•Do not make a mortgage application, instruct solicitors or make other commitments for the moment.
The plans for the Voluntary Right to Buy and other legislation that relates to the sale are currently going through parliament – we can only sell you your home when those laws have been put into force. This is not guaranteed
