Sam’s Story

Sam, who lives in the Reading area, said the ‘Level Up’ Wellbeing course shocked her out of depression, anxiety and low self-esteem into believing in herself and taking regular exercise. Today, she runs between 3 and 5 miles a day, and posts motivational stickers on lampposts to keep her going.

Redundancy from work and family issues led Sam into a series of temporary accommodations, poor eating led to weight issues, lack of stability led to depression and Sam was really struggling.

With our help, Sam now has a permanent flat with a kitchen, where she can cook and care more about what she eats.

She says the six week ‘Level Up’ Wellbeing course made her realise she was worth something, that she has skills and that she can put them to good use. That might be using her interest in electronics to make things, or finding ingenious ways to motivate her to keep running, like putting stickers up on lampposts along her route.

“Taking part in the TVH Wellbeing course was like a defibrillator for me, it shocked me into regular exercise and helped me leave my troubled life behind. I see my life now as a clean piece of paper. I’ve learnt that what I am and what I can do is a good thing, not a bad thing,” she said.
