Buying your home

Right to Buy

If you are a permanent Thames Valley Housing tenant with a secure tenancy, you may be eligible for the Right to Buy scheme. You also need to have been a tenant with us or other social landlords for longer than 3 years to qualify.

Here’s some more information about the Right to Buy scheme.

Right to Aquire

If you are a permanent Thames Valley Housing tenant with an assured tenancy, you may be eligible for the Right to Acquire scheme. You also need to have been a tenant with us or other social landlords for longer than 3 years. Plus your home must have been built or bought by us after 1st April 1997.

Here’s some more information about the Right to Acquire scheme.

How to apply

If you think you might want to buy your home, you can download an application form for the Right to Buy Scheme here or the Right to Acquire Scheme here.

It’s our Home Ownership Team who manage the process.

We need an original copy of your application so you’ll have to post it to us:

The Home Ownership Team
Thames Valley Housing
52 London Road
Twickenham
TW1 3RP

If you’ve got a query about either of these schemes, send an enquiry to our Home Ownership Team or give us a call on 0300 456 2929 (option 3).

What happens next

If you’re eligible for either scheme, we’ll send out a valuer who will visit your home and send us a report on the value of your home. They’ll tell us too about any improvements you’ve made that might (or might not) impact on the sale price.

We’ll then make an offer to you which includes details of the market value of your home, the discount we can apply to the sale price along with some other information you need to know about once you become a home-owner.

If you’re happy with the offer, you’ll need to let us know. Once you’ve sorted out the finances and got your solicitor to contact us, we can agree a date for the sale to proceed.
