Project: A Little Bit Extra – Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley and Reigate & Banstead
People that visit the foodbank are in ‘crisis’ situations. This project is about providing them with that ‘little bit extra’ to get their lives back on track so that ‘crisis’ does not become a way of life.
Bid Summary: Epsom and Ewell Foodbank opened 9 months ago and to date have fed over a 1100 people, recruited and trained over 110 volunteers and registered 50+ agencies to support its work. Since the beginning we have been challenged by the amount of people that have come into crisis through food poverty, but have many other issues going on in their lives for which they receive limited or no support.
This project is about utilizing the skills of the trained volunteers to support clients; beyond food provision and signposting. The volunteers would spend a few hours each week, with clients who do not have the ability or scope to address basic issues from opening bank accounts, getting photo id, challenging statutory organisations to budgeting. The volunteer would help to empower the client to help themselves and alleviate their crisis situation, allowing them to move forward with their lives.
