Project: Empowering people to improve lives – emotional support for people with Neurological conditions. – Richmond
Funding will provide counselling support 1:1 and group therapy to Thames Valley Housing residents with neurological conditions e.g. Parkinson’s disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), stroke and head injury. Neurological conditions not only restrict mobility but can create emotional and psychological problems; counselling helps to overcome anxiety and depression, allowing clients to become less isolated, to enjoy life and take a break from focusing on grief.
Bid Summary: Integrated Neurological Services (INS) is committed to building healthier neighbourhoods by providing rehabilitative support to people living with neurological conditions, e.g. Parkinson’s disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), stroke and head injury; allowing them to have the best possible quality of life. There are no cures for these conditions but INS aims to enable sufferers to remain independent in the community for longer. INS services are delivered by a team of experts in the field of neurological care, and include physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists, social workers and counsellors, rehab assistants and volunteers; supporting clients and their family carers with every aspect of their lives. Last year INS delivered over 6,500 sessions, via home visits, individual and group programmes of physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy; counselling – both long and short term; therapeutic and creative activities; befriending; carers’ training and support groups. Currently INS operates these services in the boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow.
