Straight Talking

Type of organisation: Peer to peer education about pregnancy and young parenthood.

Location: all London Boroughs

Straight Talking recruits, trains and employs teenage mothers and young fathers to deliver an interactive peer education programme in schools. The programme for 13-17 year old pupils, presents the realities and implications of early parenthood. We have two aims; to simultaneously prevent teenage pregnancy and parenthood and to enable teenage parents to access education and employment and become financially independent of State benefit.

What will I be doing?

We are missing an opportunity for community fundraising as we lack the manpower. We have already been offered an opportunity for a quiz night at a local pub but this requires some organising. The volunteer needs to be able to manage their own workload but we are happy to give as much time as we can to support the volunteer. We have other ideas but again the staff resources preclude us carrying out the projects. We are also seeking people to assist with CV writing and employment advice.

Will I get travel expenses?  Yes

Days and times needed:

Monday – Friday
